Cleaning, Building and Property Services Act Long service leave has been a fact of life for many workers in Australia for many years but not for workers in the cleaning, building and property services industries. Although working in the same industry for many years and doing the same job, workers often change employer or experience workplace changes resulting in having to start all over again with their long service leave accrual. After consulting with the union which represents cleaners as well as employers Wayne drafted a bill which provides for long service leave payments by employers to be made into a central fund, ensuring workers receive their long service leave entitlements regardless of changes in their employment. The success of the bill allowed many workers to access long service leave for the first time and protected these benefits from corporate collapses. Wayne’s efforts will benefit thousands of workers for many years to come.
