Wayne Blown Away by Lake Ginninderra Wind TunnelStudents at Lake Ginninderra College and Canberra’s scientific community were the winners when Wayne Berry opened the new wind tunnel at the College. The wind tunnel, constructed as part of the Researching With Scientists initiative, supported by the ACT Department of Education, is built with research in mind and it is expected that science students at both the high school and university level will be able to apply to use the tunnel to conduct their own experiments. “The wind tunnel was designed and built by the staff and students at Lake Ginninderra College in conjunction with scientists from the University of Canberra and CSIRO, and I congratulate them for their involvement and commitment to this project,” Wayne said. According to teachers and scientists involved with the project, the wind tunnel will enable research and experimentation into wind speed and its impact on buildings, the design of aerodynamically efficient transport and fire behaviour over landforms and structures. “Projects like this underpin the Government’s commitment to an innovative education and training system that is participative, inclusive and supports lifelong learning,” Wayne said. “It is an excellent example of the academic rigour and discipline that is taught and expected of students in ACT government colleges.”
