Car rego impost dropped

The Department of Urban Services has dropped plans for a revenue measure which required car owners to back-date car registration and insurance payments if they failed to pay on time.

Wayne has consistently opposed this measure.

The proposal meant that if motorists could not afford to renew their registration for a few days or months, they would have to pay back to the original expiry date or wear the cost of a full registration inspection.

However, in the face of opposition to the proposal and implementation difficulties, the Department has abandoned the proposal.

“This is good news for motorists who might not need the use of a car for the full registration period or who cannot afford to pay on time,” Wayne said.
