Implementing Canberra’s Spatial Plan

The government has allocated $420,000 for moves toward implementing the Canberra Spatial Plan.

The Spatial plan, a detailed and far reaching document covering all aspects of land use, will be completed in late 2003. As a first step towards implementing the plan, the government intends to conduct research into issues that will affect the plan such as potential future urban development, infrastructure requirements and detailed consideration of a land use/transport strategy.

Planning Minister Simon Corbell said, “This level of investigation determines the best possible use of land, the best possible way to facilitate the use of that land, and helps to identify future policy and construction priorities.

Ultimately, the city will benefit from the reduced infrastructure costs, improved sustainability through reduced transport costs, reduced greenhouse gases and increased land sales revenue as a result of this detailed assessment work.”

The Canberra Spatial plan is another example of ACT Labor investing in the future of our City.
