Building and Construction Industry Training Levy Act
The building and construction industry is a major employer in the ACT and in an era where there is an emerging shortage of qualified trade people continued training is of vital importance.

The Assembly passed a bill introduced by Wayne to address the problem of ensuring the ACT has enough qualified trades persons into the 21st century.

The legislation sets up a board to manage a fund used to train and improve the skills of building and construction industry workers and to undertake research into the training needs of the industry.

The benefits of the levy include

The industry takes increasing responsibility for planning its labour market needs.
Alleviation of youth unemployment.
Higher quality of product and improved productivity resulting from the up-skilling of workers.
